Nesta semana viralizou um v\u00eddeo em que um mestre de Capoeira, em pleno evento feminino, suspende no ar uma capoeirista e beija suas n\u00e1degas.<\/p>\n

Ao coloc\u00e1-la no ch\u00e3o, recebe uma cotovelada e um tapa, revidando imediatamente com um chute que a joga longe.<\/p>\n

Todos os elementos de uma not\u00edcia bomb\u00e1stica est\u00e3o ali: exposi\u00e7\u00e3o p\u00fablica do corpo feminino, viol\u00eancia gratuita, covardia e um terreno f\u00e9rtil para o esporte preferido dos tabl\u00f3ides sensacionalistas: fofoca.<\/p>\n

Teria sido lindo se algum capoeirista presente, QUALQUER UM, independentemente de g\u00eanero, idade ou tempo de Capoeira, tivesse entrado na roda e gritado: “I\u00ea! Parou!” e dito: “Enquanto n\u00e3o se discutir o absurdo da situa\u00e7\u00e3o que houve aqui n\u00e3o tem cabimento continuar a roda!” e aberto uma roda de conversas para debater a quest\u00e3o, expondo o rid\u00edculo do ato impr\u00f3prio. Se a roda \u00e9 de todos, todos s\u00e3o respons\u00e1veis.<\/p>\n

Mas isso n\u00e3o aconteceu. Nunca acontece. A indigna\u00e7\u00e3o vem depois, via facebook.<\/p>\n

Quantas vezes n\u00e3o vimos situa\u00e7\u00f5es de opress\u00e3o ou de viol\u00eancia muito parecidas com essa, em que ningu\u00e9m falou nada?<\/p>\n

Tr\u00eas coisas me chamam a aten\u00e7\u00e3o nesta roda:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. A normaliza\u00e7\u00e3o da viol\u00eancia contra a mulher: o corpo da mulher \u00e9 historicamente explorado pelos homens, que se sentem no direito de fazer com ele o que bem entendem, ao ponto do tal mestre se sentir no direito de beijar a bunda da sua oponente e ningu\u00e9m parar a roda para falar nada.<\/li>\n
  2. A normaliza\u00e7\u00e3o da viol\u00eancia na Capoeira: uma roda de confraterniza\u00e7\u00e3o tem um jogo\u00a0onde ap\u00f3s uma suspendida, uma cotovelada, um tapa e uma bicuda ningu\u00e9m para a roda para falar nada.<\/li>\n
  3. A normaliza\u00e7\u00e3o da viol\u00eancia discursiva: um bombardeio de coment\u00e1rios que incitam ainda mais a viol\u00eancia se espalham como fogo no facebook. Todos falamos muito.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    VIOL\u00caNCIA<\/h1>\n

    O tal mestre provavelmente foi convidado para o evento e certamente n\u00e3o foi a primeira vez que resolveu mostrar toda sua valentia. Sobram d\u00favidas: quem o convidou? Por que ningu\u00e9m falou nada? Por qu\u00ea n\u00e3o se parou a roda?<\/p>\n

    O cara errou. Errou feio. Errou de um jeito que nunca mais vai errar. Qualquer tipo de viol\u00eancia contra uma mulher deve ser reprimida. Ponto final. N\u00e3o h\u00e1 o que relativizar.<\/p>\n

    Mas cooommooo isssoo foi aconteceeeer??? Uma d\u00favida: ser\u00e1 que ele \u00e9 t\u00e3\u00e3\u00e3\u00e3ooooo diferente dos demais capoeiristas que estavam ali? Ou de todos n\u00f3s?<\/p>\n

    O cara est\u00e1 sendo execrado e linchado publicamente, recebendo dezenas de amea\u00e7as dos valent\u00f5es do facebook, que lhe enviam convites virtuais para visitar suas rodas e resolver as coisas do jeito Ma\u00e7aranduba de ser.<\/p>\n

    Nos coment\u00e1rios do v\u00eddeo aparecem homens-machos-masculinos super interessantes, dizendo: \u201cSe fosse minha irm\u00e3 eu quebrava no pau\u201d ou \u201cEla \u00e9 namorada de algu\u00e9m! Merece respeito\u201d.<\/p>\n

    Amigo, olha s\u00f3: se porrada resolvesse e educasse, a cadeia tava cheia de gente educada e regenerada. N\u00e3o adianta querer ensinar o cidad\u00e3o que violentou com a mesma moeda da viol\u00eancia. Na pol\u00edtica do olho por olho, todos terminam cegos. E n\u00e3o, n\u00e3o \u00e9 porque ela \u00e9 namorada ou irm\u00e3 de algu\u00e9m que o beijo na bunda foi desrespeitoso, ok?! \u00c9 desrespeitoso porque foi uma opress\u00e3o e ponto final.<\/p>\n

    MORALISMO<\/h1>\n

    O curioso\u00a0\u00e9 que de repente aparece um monte de guardi\u00f5es da moral, todos super revoltados, como se o distinto cidad\u00e3o que fez o ato tivesse vindo de outro planeta ou de outra arte qualquer. Ele era um marciano praticante de yoga t\u00e2ntrica? N\u00e3o. \u00c9 um capoeirista como tantos outros que saiu do seu pa\u00eds para tentar a sorte em terras estrangeiras, levando consigo o seu t\u00edtulo de mestre de Capoeira e sua viv\u00eancia pessoal de ser fruto de uma\u00a0cultura machista e violenta. O beijo, o chute, o tapa, a cotovelada e todo o resto da cena n\u00e3o se deu numa arte distante de um pa\u00eds desconhecido. Pelo contr\u00e1rio, a cena \u00e9 bem comum na Capoeira e no Brasil em geral, com algumas vari\u00e1veis. Na resolu\u00e7\u00e3o de conflitos da Capoeira, o machismo e a viol\u00eancia s\u00e3o regra, n\u00e3o exce\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n

    O QUE EU TENHO EM COMUM COM ELE?<\/h1>\n

    \u00c9 s\u00f3 dar uma breve pesquisa e voc\u00ea vai ver que tem muitos, mas muitos amigos em comum com ele no facebook. Surpreso? N\u00e3o deveria. Saiba que entre os seus amigos h\u00e1 mis\u00f3ginos, homof\u00f3bicos, racistas e imbecis de todas as categorias. Como somos produto do meio, isso quer dizer alguma coisa sobre n\u00f3s mesmos\u2026<\/p>\n

    \u00c9 bem mais f\u00e1cil xingar o vacil\u00e3o do que pensar que ele tem m\u00e3e, esposa, filha; que tem um mestre de Capoeira; que tem alunos; que \u00e9 mais um representante da Capoeira na Europa, que j\u00e1 apareceu at\u00e9 no Luciano Huck (pesquisa a\u00ed no Youtube)\u2026 Que na verdade, ele \u00e9 muito parecido com o espelho que temos em casa.<\/p>\n

    EU N\u00c3O SOU MACHISTA! ELE \u00c9 QUE \u00c9!<\/h1>\n

    Todos contra o machismo! Ser\u00e1 mesmo? Amigo guardi\u00e3o da moral: n\u00e3o \u00e9 voc\u00ea que se irrita com a forma de sua namorada de se vestir? N\u00e3o \u00e9 voc\u00ea que sempre que v\u00ea uma mulher na rua se sente no direito de dizer um \u201cpssssiiiiuuuu\u201d? N\u00e3o \u00e9 voc\u00ea que no meio de um evento de Capoeira come\u00e7a a puxar papo torto com garotas que n\u00e3o te deram abertura para isso? N\u00e3o \u00e9 voc\u00ea que chega num curso de Capoeira j\u00e1 contando as horas para o momento de relax onde voc\u00ea vai tentar dar em cima das alunas? N\u00e3o \u00e9 voc\u00ea que confunde a admira\u00e7\u00e3o de uma mulher pela sua Capoeira com interesse sexual pelos seus atributos f\u00edsicos? N\u00e3o \u00e9 voc\u00ea que \u00e9 casado com uma capoeirista mas faz quest\u00e3o de que todo mundo saiba que voc\u00ea \u00e9 pegador sinistr\u00e3o cheio de amantes?<\/p>\n

    Quem nunca viu um mestre ou um futuro mestre de Capoeira ser inconveniente com mulheres, seja na roda, seja nos coment\u00e1rios, seja no samba ou nas festas?<\/p>\n

    A ideia de que o capoeirista tem que ser \u201cpegador\u201d faz parte em grande parte do nosso meio. Ass\u00e9dio sexual na Capoeira \u00e9 quase sempre jogado para baixo dos panos, com as mulheres tendo que se afastar e sendo constantemente colocadas \u00e0 prova ao se esquivarem dos ataques f\u00edsicos que s\u00e3o piores fora da roda do que dentro dela.<\/p>\n

    Ser\u00e1 que n\u00e3o chegou a hora dos capoeiristas homens refletirem\u00a0mais seriamente sobre suas pr\u00f3prias a\u00e7\u00f5es? Ser\u00e1 que somos t\u00e3o diferentes assim do agressor em quest\u00e3o?<\/p>\n

    SEXO<\/h1>\n

    Uma musiquinha tirada a engra\u00e7adinha era cantada at\u00e9 pouco tempo nas rodas de Capoeira e ainda pode ser encontrada nos sites de letras:<\/p>\n

    De um tempo para c\u00e1 a coisa melhorou. Pelo menos n\u00e3o se ouve este tipo de imbecilidade na maioria das rodas, mas a sexualiza\u00e7\u00e3o continua sendo parte integrante da nossa cultura. Por exemplo, quando colocamos a palavra \u201cCapoeira” no Youtube qual \u00e9 o v\u00eddeo com recorde de visualiza\u00e7\u00f5es? Mestre Bimba? Mestre Pastinha?<\/p>\n

    N\u00e3o. O primeiro \u00e9 este, com mais de 22 MILH\u00d5ES de visualiza\u00e7\u00f5es<\/p>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    Quando se liga o v\u00eddeo n\u00e3o h\u00e1 nada de Capoeira e sim uma cena de samba. Ser\u00e1 que isso quer dizer algo?<\/p>\n

    A figura\u00a0feminina faz parte constante dos papos de bar p\u00f3s-roda. “Comi essa, essa e aquela”, “Viu aquela gostosa de abad\u00e1 coladinho?”, “Vai ter muita mulher no evento de beltrano?”<\/p>\n

    Quando as mulheres reclamam do machismo elas s\u00e3o vistas como “exageradas” ou ent\u00e3o “est\u00e3o de mi-mi-mi”.<\/p>\n

    Neste meio tempo um indiv\u00edduo se sente na liberdade de beijar a bunda da oponente na roda, assim como outro se sente na liberdade de cham\u00e1-la de “gostooosssaaa” na esquina ou mandar o cl\u00e1ssico “te chupo toda” no meio da rua.<\/p>\n

    VIOL\u00caNCIA<\/h1>\n

    Seguindo nas buscas do Youtube, chegamos em v\u00eddeos deste tipo. Os mais de 2 milh\u00f5es de visualiza\u00e7\u00f5es em um ano n\u00e3o dizem nada sobre n\u00f3s? Sobre o que valorizamos?<\/p>\n

    Agora, sempre que aparece algum capoeirista desmaiando um adolescente numa roda ou bicando uma mulher num evento brota pacifista de todos os cantos.<\/p>\n

    Amigo pacifista: n\u00e3o \u00e9 voc\u00ea que acha maneir\u00e3o tatuar a testa do ladr\u00e3o de bicicleta? N\u00e3o \u00e9 voc\u00ea que vota em quem diz que “bandido bom \u00e9 bandido morto”? Que prefere ter filho morto do que gay? Que incita os alunos a darem chutes sem controle, tapas na cara e quedas de wrestling? N\u00e3o \u00e9 voc\u00ea que que quando algu\u00e9m se machuca na roda \u00e9 o primeiro a dizer: \u201cDeu mole! Se estivesse treinando mais isso n\u00e3o acontecia\u201d?<\/p>\n

    N\u00e3o \u00e9 voc\u00ea que incentiva uma Capoeira cheia de \u201cra\u00e7a\u201d, \u201cguerreira\u201d, “pronta para tudo”?<\/p>\n

    Um pouco mais de bom-senso faz bem para todo mundo: n\u00e3o se deveria suspender ningu\u00e9m numa roda de Capoeira. Tampouco dar um tapa na cara e uma cotovelada, muito menos bicar a caixa tor\u00e1cica de uma pessoa com metade do seu peso. Beijar as n\u00e1degas \u00e9 apenas mais um ato surreal num festival de anomalias que longe de serem alien\u00edgenas, dizem muito de n\u00f3s mesmos.<\/p>\n

    Se come\u00e7arem a tatuar cada um dos vacilos que vemos na Capoeira vai faltar testa e tinta\u2026<\/p>\n

    <\/h1>\n

    FOFOCA<\/h1>\n

    Diariamente s\u00e3o postados centenas de v\u00eddeos e textos interessantes sobre cultura, pol\u00edtica, corpo e outros assuntos super interessantes \u00e0 Capoeira. No entanto, v\u00eddeos escandalosos e mensagens de fofoca fazem mais sucesso. Basta postar algo como: \u201cTem muito capoeirista comprando seu t\u00edtulo de Mestre\u201d ou \u201cOlhe o trabalho de beltrano: isso n\u00e3o \u00e9 Capoeira!\u201d para se ganhar uma visibilidade baseada na fofoca. Quem nunca viu um mestre de Capoeira que passa a maior parte do seu tempo falando mal do trabalho dos outros?<\/p>\n

    Essa \u00e9 a cultura da fofoca, mas isso \u00e9 assunto para um pr\u00f3ximo post! Por hoje \u00e9 s\u00f3!<\/p>\n

    This week a video went viral where a Capoeira Master, at a women’s event, picks up a female Capoeirista and kisses her on the butt cheek. After putting her down, she elbows and then slaps him, where he then immediately retaliates with a kick that sends her flying. All of the elements for a fantastic story are there: public exhibition of the female body, violence for the spectator, cowardice and fertile ground for the most preferred sport of national tabloids: gossip. It would have been really nice if any capoeirista that was present, ANY ONE, independent of gender, age or time spent in Capoeira, would have entered into the roda and shouted “Hey! Stop!” followed by: “Until we discuss and resolve what just happened here, there is no way to continue with the roda (capoeira games)!” and open a platform to debate the situation in question, exposing the ridiculousness of the inappropriate act. If the roda belongs to everyone then everyone is responsible. But that didn’t happen. That never happens. The indignation comes later, via facebook. How many times have we seen situations of oppression or violence, very similar to this one, where no one said anything? There are three things that call my attention in this roda (game):<\/p>\n

    1) The normalization of violence against women: historically women’s bodies are objectified by men, who feel they are in the right to do whatever they please and believe to be right, to the point that this particular master felt that he was in the right to kiss his opponents behind and nobody stop the roda (game) or say anything.<\/p>\n

    2) How normal has the violence within capoeira become: a roda (game) between friends where someone is picked up, an elbow is thrown, followed by a slap and a kick and no one to stop the roda (game).<\/p>\n

    3) The normalization of collective violence: a bombardment of comments that excite even more the violence that spreads like wildfire throughout facebook. We all talk a lot.<\/p>\n

    VIOLENCE<\/h1>\n

    This specific master was probably invited to the event and this for sure was not the first time that he has demonstrated his “toughness” for others. Why didn’t anyone say anything? Why wasn’t the roda (game) stopped? The guy made a mistake. A really bad one. He messed up in a way that he would be sure to never make the same mistake again. Any type of violence against a woman should be reprimanded. Period. There is nothing to discuss. But hoooooww did that haaaaappen??? I have a question: is it possible that he’s soooooo different from the capoeiristas who were present? Or from the rest of us? The guy is being publicly torn apart and lynched, receiving dozens of threats from the tough guys on facebook, that sent virtual invites to visit their rodas and resolve things the violent\u00a0way, like a well-known character from a brazilian TV show always says: “I will beat you up!”<\/p>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    In the comments you can see macho-males saying very interesting things like: “If it was my sister I would beat his ass” or “She’s someone’s girlfriend! She deserved respect.”<\/p>\n

    My friend, look at this: If beating someone up resolved the problem and taught them a lesson, jails would be full of people who have transformed their lives and changed their behavior. It’s no use teaching a lesson to the citizen who committed an act of violence with the same violent behavior.<\/p>\n

    If we keep on punishing\u00a0an eye for an eye, everyone will go blind.<\/p>\n

    And no, it’s not the fact that she’s someone’s sister or girlfriend that the kiss on her butt was disrespectful, ok?! It’s disrespectful because it was an act of oppression, period.<\/p>\n

    MORALISM<\/h1>\n

    \u00a0What’s curious is that all of a sudden a bunch of guardians of morality appear, all of them extremely pissed off as if this distinct person who committed the act had come from another planet or any other art form. Was he an alien practitioner of tantric yoga? No. He’s a capoeirista like many others who left their country to try their luck in foreign lands, taking with him his title of master in Capoeira and his personal experience, which is the fruit of a culture which is macho and violent. The kiss, the kick, the slap, the elbow and everything else that happened in the scene is not something that is so distant from this art or unfamiliar to us in this country. On the contrary, this scene is very common in Capoeira and in Brazil in general with varying situations. To resolve conflicts in Capoeira, chauvinism and violence are the rule, not the exception.<\/p>\n

    WHAT DO I HAVE IN COMMON WITH HIM?<\/h1>\n

    A quick online search is all you have to do to see that there are many, but many of your online friends who have something in common with him on facebook. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Know that among your friends there are misogynists, homophobes, racists and imbeciles of all types. Isn’t you who, every time you see a woman, feel that you have the right to catcall her? Isn’t it you that in the middle of a Capoeira event, start to flirt with girls and say inappropriate things when they have not given you the liberty to do so? Isn’t it you that goes to an event already counting down the hours to the recreation time when you’re going to try to hit on the female students? Isn’t it you that confuses the admiration a woman has for your capoeira for sexual and physical interests? Isn’t it you who are married to a female capoeirista but make it a point that everyone knows that you hook up with many other women and have many lovers? Who has never seen a master or future master be inappropriate with women whether it be in the roda (game), through comments, at the Samba or parties? The idea that a capoeirista has to get all of the girls has to do in (a big) part with our environment. Sexual harassment in Capoeira is usually swept under the rug, with women having to distance themselves while constantly being put to the test as they deflect physical attacks that are much worse outside of the roda (game) than inside. Do you think that the time has come for male capoeiristas to reflect more seriously regarding their own proper actions? Is it possible that we are so different from the aggressor in question?<\/p>\n

    SEX<\/h1>\n

    A song that was taken as funny, was making the rounds until a while ago in the Capoeira rodas and you can still find it on the lyrics website:<\/p>\n

    Its called “Women For Me” and goes as “A woman for me has to maintain the profile, She has to play capoeira She has to be sexy, hot and beautiful (I said)<\/p>\n

    Things have gotten better with time. At least you don’t hear that type of idiocy in the majority of the rodas but sexualization continues being an integral part of our culture. For example: whenever you search the word “Capoeira” in Youtube, what is the video that has the highest number of hits? Master Bimba? Master Pastinha?<\/p>\n

    No. The first one is this one, with more than 22 million hits:<\/p>\n

    When you play the video it has nothing to do with Capoeira but everything to do with Samba. Do you think that could mean something?<\/p>\n

    The female figure is a constant topic of conversation at the bar after the rodas. “I fucked this one, I fucked that one”, “did you see that fine ass girl with her tight white capoeira pants on?” Are there gonna be a lot of women at such and such’s event?”<\/p>\n

    When women complain about chauvinism they are seen as being dramatic or just being difficult.<\/p>\n

    In this environment an individual feels the freedom to kiss his opponent’s butt in the roda (game) just like another feels the freedom to call her “seeeeeexy” on the corner or send the classic “Girl, I’ll suck you from head to toe” in the middle of the street.<\/p>\n

    VIOLENCE<\/h1>\n

    Continuing with Youtube searches, we come across these types of videos.<\/p>\n

    Those that have more than 2 million views in one year don’t say something about us spectators? The things that we value?<\/p>\n

    Now, whenever there’s a capoeirista knocking out an adolescent or kicking a woman in an event, pacifists sprout from all around.<\/p>\n

    My pacifist friend: isn’t it you who thinks it’s cool to tattoo the forehead of a bicycle thief? Isn’t it you that says that “the only good type of thief is a dead thief?” That prefers to have a dead son over a gay son? That encourages your students to kick without any control, slap someone in the face and incorporate wrestling takedowns? Isn’t it you that whenever someone hurts themselves in the roda (game), is the first one to say: “You were weak! If you had been training more that wouldn’t happen.”<\/p>\n

    Isn’t it you that encourages a strong breed of Capoeira, “warriors”, ready for anything?<\/p>\n

    Using a little more common sense is good for everyone: no one should ever be lifted up into the air in a Capoeira roda, smack or elbow someone and much less kick the ribcage of someone who is half your weight. Kissing someone’s ass is just another surreal act in a festival of anomalies, that far from being alien, say a lot about ourselves.<\/p>\n

    The photo below was taken from a real case that happened a couple of weeks ago in Brazil, where a thief was tatooed “I’m an idiot thief” on his forehead.<\/p>\n

    If we begin to tattoo the foreheads of every single error and lack of judgement made in Capoeira there will be a shortage of foreheads and ink.<\/p>\n

    GOSSIP<\/h1>\n

    Hundreds of interesting videos and articles are posted daily regarding culture, politics, the body and other topics very interesting to Capoeira. However, scandalous videos and gossip are much more popular. It’s enough to just post something like: “there’s a lot of capoeiristas buying their master tittle” or “look at such and such’s work with capoeira: that’s not capoeira!” so that they can gain notoriety from the gossip.<\/p>\n

    Who has never seen a master who spends the majority of their time speaking badly about other’s work? That’s the gossip culture, but that’s a topic for the next post! That’s all for today!<\/p>\n
